The Yacht
Electrical system
The entire electrical system will be installed by de Vollharding, and designed in close cooperation with MASTERVOLT and WHISPER POWER engineers. The system has three very advanced features:
- all electrical appliances, which include airconditioning, electric hob, oven, watermaker and other 230 VAC appliances, should be able to run WITHOUT the generator – or shorepower, utilizing the 15 kVA sine wave inverter. The system is laid out in such a way that the 25 kVA Whisper generator should only operate for 3-4 hours to re-store energy into the large battery banks, delivering sufficient power to operate various heavy loads like airco, washer/dryer and cooking systems.
- When INDEPENDENCE is connected to shore power, all relevant shore power related functions and all on board appliances should operate without restrictions. Shore power shortage (caused by restricted amperage, i e 16 amps) will be compensated for by the Mass Combi Inverter/ charger system, which will deliver extra power utilizing the large battery bank.
- All electrical, electronic and other devices fitted with a CAN bus based communication device, will be linked by the MASTERBUS communication bus. Operation, control and service related information will be visible on one screen.
Main electrical system components:
230V AC system – generator system
Main generator
1x Whisper Ultra 25 kVA 230 V /50 Hz single phase.
This generator will only used for recharging the batteries and will have limited operation time in case the airconditioning system is not operating in full function.
Auxiliary generator
1x Whisper Ultra 6, 6 kVA, to be used as “night” generator if no shore power is available. When cruising in Nordic regions, this generator will be suitable to operate most of the electric appliances.
Both gensets will be fitted with the latest DELTA exhaust parts: the DELTA waterlock to protected the engines from water return and the DELTA exhaust / water separators, ensuring optimized noise reduction.
230 V AC system – inverter
we will install two inverter systems:
1 x 15 kVA main inverter, which will be able to power the whole boat.
1 x MASS Combi 24/4000 combined inverter/ charger system, which will be used to reinforce shorepower in case of limited availability: 4 kW continuous 230 VAC power (depending on the battery capacity of course) and a maximum of 8 kW peak power can be obtained on top of the available shore power amperage. The yacht will be fitted with 2x 32 Amp/230 V shorepower connections, which makes it possible to use two sockets of any amperage from shore.
12 and 24 V DC System
1 x MasterConnect DC Bus system for 24 DC distribution.
1 x 1650 Ah 24 V DC maintenance free battery bank, sealed, consisting of 12 x 2 V cells. This is the best power storage system in the world. A 100 discharge will not affect the life time – weight of this bank is around 1400 kg
Auxiliary batteries
2 x 225 Ah AGM sets as starter sets for the two diesel engines.
2 x small batteries for the generator.
2 x 24 Volt 110 Amp hi output alternators with Alpha Pro which will be fi tted to the main engine.
3 x CHARGE MASTER 24/100 battery chargers to recharge the main set within a short period Various DC DC converters to supply 12 V power for lights and other consumers. These devices will also be utilized for halogen light dimming.
Key feature: MasterView System panel
MY INDEPENDENCE will be one of the first yachts fitted with an advanced monitoring panel currently being developed by Mastervolt. This full colour touch screen panel is connected via the MasterBus to all electrical components on board which includes the two generators, the inverters, battery chargers, battery banks etc. Through this panel all these components can be controlled and monitored. Two Raymarine E Series navigation monitors will be connected to the MasterBus as well, offering access to all vital systems on board as well.
